When you hear the word Stories you think of Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and maybe even WhatsApp but now Google has announced YouTube Stories for Creators.

Google’s  Product Lead for YouTube Stories, Todd Sherman, revealed on Thursday that YouTube Stories are now available to all eligible creators with 10,000 or more subscribers.

YouTube had previously announced at VidCon in June that YouTube Stories would be available to YouTube creators with more than 10,000 subscribers later in the year.

Sherman elaborated on the announcement: “Through testing the Stories format with a small group of you over the past year, we’ve seen you do just that, from FashionbyAlly giving updates on what’s coming next, to Colin and Samir bringing their fans into the creative process.

“We applied feedback that we got from you to build a product specifically designed with you, the YouTube creator, in mind. And starting today, we are excited to announce that we are rolling out YouTube Stories to all eligible creators with 10K+ subscribers.”

Google will be attempting to capture the attention of the 400 million daily active users of Instagram Stories. Statista reports that this number has grown by 300 million in the last 2 years and 100 million in the last 12 months.

According to Digital Market Asia, Facebook reported in late 2017 that teens are the strongest consumers and producers of the Stories format and consume four times more Stories per daily active person than non-teens and produce 6X more Stories per daily active person than non-teens. These trends are noticed even while looking at individual countries, such as Japan, Spain and the US.

YouTube Stories will share many similar features to Stories formats on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

Sherman went on to say: “Creating with Stories is lightweight, easy, and fun.

“Stories will have the fun creation tools that you know and love. You can add text, music, filters, YouTubey stickers, and more to make your story uniquely you!

“To create a story, just open the YouTube mobile app, tap on the video camera icon, and select “Create Story.”
