Cloud-based operating system Domo released their sixth Data Never Sleeps report this year, analysing the 2.5 quintillion bytes of data that are created every single day across popular apps and platforms including Google, Instagram, Amazon, Netflix, Spotify and more.
The big numbers
There’s the first number to break down: 2.5 quintillion bytes. That’s 2.5 exabytes. Doesn’t sound so impressive? How about 2.5 million terabytes, or 2.5 billion gigabytes?
But who is generating all this digital content?
In 2012, there were about 2.2 billion active internet users. (31% of the world’s population)
In 2017, there were about 3.8 billion active internet users. (50% of the world’s population)

On average, every minute there are:
- 12.9 million texts.
- 2.1 million Snaps.
- 1.3 million Giphy .gifs used.
- 473,400 Tweets.
- 176,220 Skype calls.
- 79,740 Tumblr posts.
- 49,380 Instagram photos.
- 1,944 Reddit comments.
- 120 new people on LinkedIn.
Entertainment
Netflix saw a whopping 40 percent increase in streaming hours, going from 69,444 hours to 97,222. That’s not total. That’s per minute. Every minute, Netflix users collectively stream 97,222 hours of video.
Every minute, YouTube users collectively watch 4.3 million videos.
Every minute, Spotify users collectively stream over 750,000 songs.
